Defender of the Ukraine team, Oleksandr Karavaiev, is of the opinion that the goal scored via a penalty shoot-out by Samuel Kalu, during the first half of their 2-2 draw with Nigeria should not have been approved by Italian official Paolo Valeri.
Despite the fact that what was shown on the television was otherwise, Karavaiev maintained that Kalu the Super Eagles winger slammed into him and wasn’t fouled before falling down.
Speaking to Football.ua, Karavaiev said ”The episode from the penalty … I stopped, did not put up a foot, nothing – he just hit me.”
”The referee gave a penalty in favour of the attacker, this is his decision. Next time I’ll play more carefully, I’ll work on mistakes.
”The mood after the match is good, because we showed character, created a lot of moments in the second half and could win the match. They did not give up, showed their game and achieved a draw.”
Nigeria as at the 34th minute had scored two goals, courtesy of Joe Aribo and Victor Osimhen respectively. The friendly match however ended in a draw after the host scored two goals at almost dying minute.
