The number of downloads usually hint at how popular an app (or service) is. In the case of TikTok, the app has definitely gained popularity, based on a recent report that showed it was downloaded much more than other social media applications in 2019.
With over 700 million downloads around the world, according to data firm Sensor Tower, TikTok ended the year 2019, as the second most popular app (in terms of downloads), right behind WhatsApp. It beat Facebook, Facebook Messenger and Instagram.
According to the report, India was responsible for nearly 45% of first-time users. The report also mentions that the Q4 of 2019 proved to be the best for TikTok app with nearly 220 million installs – which is an impressive number.
For those unfamiliar with the app, TikTok is a social media app that allows users to post short videos of up to 15 seconds long, often synced with music. It uses an algorithm to learn what users like – by assessing what types of videos they watch and how long they watch them for – to.
