On Dec. 3, 1994, the first PlayStation console made its debut in Japan, and according to the consoles’ sales figures 25 years after, the PS2 and PS4 are the top-selling home consoles of all time, with sales of 155 million andconsoles, respectively.
The original PlayStation is just behind with 102.5 million, while the PS3 sold at a disappointing 87.4 million units.
As the company looks back, it’s also looking ahead. The PlayStation 5 is Sony’s next console and it is scheduled to be released in December 2020. There’s a lot still unknown about Sony’s next-gen console, but we assume that more details will be made available as we approach the launch date.
