Six persons confirmed dead in Lagos pipeline explosion

Six persons have been confirmed dead in the pipeline explosion that occurred around Diamond Estate along Isheri/Lasu -Igando Road.

The explosion which started around 7.45 a.m, on Thursday, December 5,  engulfed the environs in thick fire and smoke.

It was caused by suspected vandals who broke into the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation’s pipeline in the area in a bid to scoop fuel.

The broken pipeline was reported to have been spilling fuel continuously, hence leading to the fire incident that engulfed four locations in the community.

One of the bodies of the victims recovered by the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), a grown man, was said to have gone for his early morning cleansing service in the canal area at Iyana Odo, Isheri Olofin area of Alimosho, where he got burnt to death.

The pastor leading the cleansing service was saved from the fatal accident,  surviving the explosion, with major burns on his body. He is currently being attended to at the General Hospital.

Meanwhile, Vanguard reports that two suspects in connection to the explosion have been arrested. As at the time of filing the report, the rescue team was seen trying to avert the fire.
