Just a few days before 2019 goes into oblivion, Qualcomm has taken the wraps off its new processors – the Snapdragon 865, 765 and gaming-oriented 765G – at its ongoing Qualcomm Snapdragon Tech Summit in Maui, Hawaii.
As announced by Qualcomm senior Vice President and general manager of mobile, Alex Katouzian, the two new processors (the Snapdragon 865 and the 765) were made with 5G and AI (Artificial Intelligence) in mind. Specifically, the Snapdragon 865 comes with the Snapdragon X55 5G modem, which Qualcomm says is “the world’s most advanced 5G platform.” The Snapdragon 765 and 765G also bring 5G connectivity, as well as “advanced AI processing, and select Snapdragon Elite Gaming experiences.”
The Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 replaces the Snapdragon 855 as Qualcomm’s premium-tier mobile application processor while the Snapdragon 765 and 765G supersede the Snapdragon 730 and 730G as more affordable and high-performance chipsets.
According to the company, these mobile smartphone chips will come with dozens of smartphones expected to launch in 2020. In fact, smartphone manufacturers such as Xiaomi, OPPO, Nokia and Motorola have all confirmed that these new chips from Qualcomm will be packed with their respective flagship phones launching next year.
With this development, it is safe to say that Qualcomm clearly wants everyone to have a 5G enabled phone by 2020.
