Port Harcourt serial killer who has been responsible for the death of about three females in the past few weeks has been caught by the Nigerian police.
The suspect who identified as Gracious David West confessed to using pillowcases to tie up his victim before he murdered her in a hotel room in Rukpokwu, about 18 kilometres from Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital city.
The 26-year-old who confessed to being a cultist was caught on September 18 on East-West Road en route to Uyo from Port Harcourt.
In a video posted on the official twitter handle of the Nigerian police, West said that he had transactional sex with a nameless victim. Hours later, she died.
Although the video did not contain West’s explicit admission of the crime, the Nigerian police, however, tagged the video “confession of a serial killer.”
Speaking in the confessional video, West said, “We went to the hotel, I paid for the place so they took her up [to the room].”
He and the victim both ate food ordered from the hotel, after which they had sex.
“Around that 5:30 am – let’s say 4 or 5:30 – I brought out a knife and now threatened her.
“With that fear, she couldn’t shout. By then, the television…the volume was loud. So she kept quiet. After that, I used the wrapper to tie her hands at the back and then tie her legs.”
When the interrogator asked what kind of wrapper he used, he attested to using pillowcases.
However, the police said yesterday that investigation is on with a view to ascertaining his motives and possible accomplices.
Prior to the arrest of West, some photos shared on social media showed corpses of young women with pieces of clothes tied around their necks and legs.
Women in Port Harcourt dressed in black to protest against the killings on Wednesday, demanding that the Rivers Government and security agencies end the killings.
The police were able to bring West to book with the help of a CCTV footage from the hotel in Rukpokwu
