Recently convicted senator, Orji Uzor Kalu, has pleaded with the court to grant him a post-conviction bail.
In an application forwarded to the court today, December 17, Kalu stated that he is in dire need of medical attention which the medical facilities in prison cannot handle.
Owing to the fact that the offence he was convicted for were bailable, Kalu prayed the court to set him from pending the challenge of his conviction by Justice Mohammed at the court of appeal.
He harped on the fact that the Chief Whip of the Senate and the senator representing Abia North Senatorial District would not take it lightly if he remains behind bars despite his health relapse.
Meanwhile, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission have kicked against the post-conviction bail application.
Senator Kalu was sentenced to 12 years imprisonment on December 5th, by a federal high court in Lagos after being found guilty of all the 39-court charges filed against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
In the 39-counts-charge, the EFCC accused him of conspiring and diverting over N7 billion from the coffers of Abia state.
