A team five girls between ages 10 to 11-year-old from Lagos Nigeria, have made it to the top 10 for the 2019 International Technology competition for girls in Silicon Valley, California.
The competition which is sponsored by Technovation is a program that invites girls to identify a problem in their communities and then challenges them to solve the problem by developing apps.
The team of girls called ‘Brain Squad’ was able to secure a spot in the op 10 after designing an application called ‘Hands Out’, an app that enables swift donations to assist indigent kids who are unable to go to school in Nigeria.
Because of the invention of the Hands Out app, well-meaning individuals are able to donate cash for schooling, food, shoes, books, stationary, medication and more.
The names of the girls are Ayomiku Ariyo, Ivana Mordi, Jadesola Kassim, Munachiso Chigbo, and Pandora Onyedire. They are currently in 6th grade at Standard Bearers School Lekki.
The team had won at the local level technology competition in Nigeria, regional level in Africa and now part of the top 10 out of 2000 teams who competed for the final lap in Silicon Valley.
The overall winner for the International Technology competition will be determined by votes.
