Apart from the success achieved by the military in tackling the insurgency in the North East, the Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Saddique Abubakar disclosed that the military has also successfully suppressed the uprising of banditry in some parts of the country.
This was disclosed by Abubakar yesterday (13th of August), while he was being interviewed by newsmen in Yola, Adamawa State capital.
The Chief of Air Staff who arrived Yola to celebrate the Eid-el-Kabir with fellow military officers discussed extensively on the fight against insurgency in the northeast.
Having assured that the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) would continue to motivate its personnel to boost their morale in the task of keeping Nigeria and the society safe, Abubakar noted, “We are making progress and all hands must be on deck to address the challenges, particularly the new challenge of banditry.
According to him, the NAF has established the quick Response Units in some states to bring security closer to the people.
Abubakar however, advised that citizens should not hesitate to inform the security agencies in case there’s a breach of security in the areas they reside.
“I want to emphasize that security is not just about security agencies; everybody has a role to play to ensure Nigeria is secured,” he added.
Meanwhile the governor of Enugu State, Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi dropped by at the Umuogbua Ihe tunnel along the Enugu-Port Harcourt Expressway by Awgu Local Government Area, an area known to be a hideout and escape route for kidnappers operating in the area.
Gov. Ugwuanyi also took a look at Ihe-Agbogugu-Ogbaku-Amurri and Isu-Awaa-Agbudu Forests in the same local government area, after which he demanded the immediate destruction of Agbogugu and Isu-Awaa-Agbudu caves to strengthen the security of the areas.
Also, the ongoing construction of a military base situated along Enugu-Port Harcourt expressway by Umuogbua Ihe Awgu Local Government Area was visited by the Governor. He ordered the immediate clearing of the bushes around the area.
Gov. Ugwuanyi further disclosed that a joint security patrol team will begin a thorough inspection of the affected areas to ensure maximum security and strict adherence to rules.
