The maker of multi-award winning movie, The Figurine, Kunle Afolayan, is set to release another intriguing film titled ‘Citation’.
The movie is a college drama about social decadence, in reference to the education system. It narrates the story of a female postgraduate student who amidst the challenges of school has to devise a means of handling sexual harassment from a lecturer.
Afolayan revealed the upcoming movie on Thursday, January 9, 2020, during a press conference, indicating that his company was ready to shoot ‘Citation’. He added that pre-production had already started since October 2018. Using three countries, it will entail five weeks of shoot starting January 10, 2020, to February 15, 2020.
Highlighting the theme further, the award-winning filmmaker said: “CITATION will create awareness on the different forms of violence against women and girls in the public and private sphere. It will educate society on women’s rights and the ways to enforce these rights for the achievement of equality and tranquillity. The movie will encourage and embolden women to stand up against mistreatment and abuse by a patriarchal society. It has also been designed to propel women to aspire to become successful leaders and thereby provide counterexamples to negative gender stereotypes.”
Ford Foundation will be partners on the project. Also, for the second time consecutively, Canon Central and North Africa are also coming on board for the project. CITATION will be shot with the new Canon EOS C500 Mark II camera, making it the first time the camera will be used in Africa.
Other partners for the project include; Access bank, Ajike Peoples’ Support Centre, a Non-Governmental Organisation and pet project of Mrs. Olufolake Ajike Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, First Lady of Kwara State; and Ministry of Culture and Creative Industries in Cape Verde, as main sponsors of the country’s locations of the shoot.
