The former heavyweight champion, Anthony Joshua (22-1, 21 KOs), will not be legally mandated to grant Andy Ruiz Jr. (33-1, 22 KOs) a rubber match if he defeats him at the rematch scheduled for December 7.
Boxing scene reports that if Joshua wins the rematch, it will automatically give room for a third contest which will hold in Diriyah, Saudi Arabia and if peradventure Ruiz wins the third, it doesn’t mean that Joshua will handover the belts back.
During the three days city press tour which held this weekend to publicize the rematch for Dec 7, Joshua said that if he wins his IBF, IBO, WBA and WBO titles in three months, he will request an ‘easy fight’.
When enquired by reporters if the easy fight was going to be with Ruiz, Joshua declined to say “No. I’m gonna fight some guy from the pub. That’s what the heavyweight division does, isn’t it?
Joshua also said that if he wins his titles back, he will like to fight Deontay Wilder (41-0-1, 40 KOs) and/or Tyson Fury (28-0-1, 20 KOs), although not immediately because those wouldn’t be the types of fights he would pursue right after.
