Nigeria gave a remarkable play yesterday (September 8) at the 2019 Fédération Internationale de basket (FIBA) World Cup, currently hosted by China. D’Tigers, the male basketball team defeated China by 86 to 73, thereby eligible for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.
The game which was Nigeria’s last classification game for the 2019 FIBA Men World Cup made D’Tigers the number one team in the whole of Africa for the FIBA games this year, thereby bagging an Olympics ticket as a reward.
At the first quarter of the game, china won with 21-19 points but D’Tigers pitched higher in the second quarter, ending the first half with 35-31 points.
Like the second quarter, D’Tigers battled the third and fourth quarters, leading 25-20 and 26-22 respectively with four players recording double figures.
The man of the match award went to D’Tigers Josh Okogie, who shot 16 points, three assists and five rebounds. This followed with Nnamdi Vincent, who scored 14 points, two assists and one rebound.
Also from D’Tigers, Ekpe Udoh scored 13 points while Chimezie Metu scored 11 points.
It should be noted that D’Tigers recorded the highest number of wins in a single World Cup.
