In 2018, the WhatsApp team announced for the first time that they were working on a dark mode feature, and although it feels like this dark mode for WhatsApp has taken forever to be released, multiple reports making the rounds claim that the company is finally ready.
According to the reports, a dark mode in the latest WhatsApp beta update (2.20.13) on the Google Play Store was recently spotted and from all indications, the feature is now available for some users.
The feature can either be manually enabled or follow system theme settings if you’re on Android 10. In this feature, your WhatsApp will automatically go dark when you enable system-wide dark mode. Android 9 Pie users and below can manually enable it as well, or have it follow the battery saver i.e. dark mode is enabled when battery saver is turned on.
The new colour scheme applies to the chat menu, settings pages, calls tab, contact list, and several other menus.
