The Economic Management team headed by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, was replaced yesterday (September 16) with an Economic Advisory Council (EAC), by President Muhammadu Buhari.
An economist, Prof. Doyin Salami was appointed by the President to head the new EAC. Also going forward, the council will be reporting directly to the President Buhari.
According to a statement by Buhari’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity Femi Adesina, the function of the EAC is to advise the president on economic policy matters, including fiscal analysis, economic growth and a range of internal and global economic issues, working with the relevant cabinet members and heads of monetary and fiscal agencies.
Monthly sessions will be held by the EAC to discuss the development of critical policies that will be helpful to President Buhari in implementing national policies.
The members of the new EAC are:

- Dr. Mohammed Sagagi (vice chairman)
- Prof. Ode Ojowu (member)
- Dr. Shehu Yahaya (member)
- Dr. Iyabo Masha (member)
- Prof. Chukwuma Soludo (member)
- Mr. Bismark Rewane (member)
- Dr. Mohammed Adaya Salisu (secretary).
Adesina said: “This advisory council will replace the current EMT and will be reporting directly to the president. The EAC will have monthly technical sessions as well as scheduled quarterly meetings with the president. The chairman may, however, request unscheduled meetings if the need arises.”
