About 100 fake professors in various Nigerian universities have been apprehended by the National Universities Commission.
This was disclosed by the NUC Executive Secretary, Prof Abubakar Rasheed, at the 2019 retreat for Vice-Chancellors by the NUC Strategy Advisory Committee.
The names of the fake professors were published on the NUC website and sent across to the various universities where they lecture.
Rasheed said, “The updated version of those documents will be published by December 2019. The professors in their respective universities uploaded their CV on the website which was used in the compilation of the directory. About 100 fake professors also uploaded their details but we detected them”.
“This measure helped in identifying fake professors in the system. The fight against fake professors is a collective responsibility.”
The Executive Secretary also disclosed to the vice-chancellors about a meeting held with the Director-General, National Youth Service Corps, Brig. Gen. Shuaibu Ibrahim, where it was discovered that some corps members’ degree certificates from some highbrow universities were questionable.
The VC’s were advised to be on the lookout for academic corruption which seems to have polluted the majority of varsities in Nigeria.
